Terminal 2F Soekarno-Hatta International Airport is being prepared to become a low cost carrier terminal (LCC) terminal. The LCC terminal is specifically designed to accommodate flights to LCC (low cost), so as to increase tourism in Indonesia.
Related to this, former Director of the Airport Directorate General of Air Transportation, Yudhi Sari Sitompul questioned the plan. He’s questioning whether the Terminal 2F should be operated as an LCC terminal.
“If this LCCT should be at Soekarno-Hatta Airport too, where do you want it to be located? The terminal, the runway, and the taxiways which were all just that,” asked Yudhi after the presentation by the special staff of the Minister of Tourism in the FGD which was held by the Indonesian Pilot Federation (FPI) today (Thursday, 3/28/2019).
Yudhi emphasized that Soekarno-Hatta Airport has a maximum service capacity. &It can’t be more. It cannot serve if it’s exceed its capacity,& he said firmly.
According to him, there are still other options to accommodate LCC flights in Jakarta and Tangerang. “We have Pondok Cabe Airfield, and we have Budiarto Airport,” he said.
Responding to Yudhi’s statement, Special Staff of the Minister of Tourism for Infrastructure, Judi Rifajantoro said that if Terminal 2F is not feasible for LCC, there are other options.
“If Cengkareng plans to build Terminal 4 (implemented), it might be possible (for LCCT). Because the Terminal 2 is already crowded,” said Judi.
In the previous week (3/21/2019), President Director of Angkasa Pura II, Muhammad Awaluddin said that the company was preparing Terminal 2F to become an LCC terminal.
This discourse according to him has received a positive response from the Ministry of BUMN, Ministry of Transportation and the Ministry of Tourism. He projected that on May 1, Terminal 2F could be formally operated as an LCC terminal.
